CQ Researcher is an online collection of reports, each giving a useful overview of a topic, its history, and varying opinions on the topic...a la abortion, climate change, hunger, etc.
Opposing Viewpoints is also an online collection of reports on a wide variety of topics...if you're looking for an idea...look here.
CredoReference is a collection of definitions, topic summaries, etc. and is often a good starting place to learn basic information about any topic new to you.
