Science, Technology, and Society (3 cr/MENU)
This middle phase course examines the history of science and technology and related social change (as cause and/or consequence). It examines the impact of science and technology on individuals, organizations, and communities; on ethical beliefs and religion; and on larger socio-political entities and relations, while considering the impact of science and technology on such social institutions as education, family, and work. It explores the impact of science and technology on natural and human-made environments, as well as ordinary people's access to the basic resources they need to live. It examines the impact of science and technology on tensions and conflict and efforts to ease such tensions and prevent conflict. Finally, the course addresses information literacy, grounding it within technological development itself.
