Biography
Born in1907 Rachel Carson, biologist, graduated from Johns Hopkins Univeristy with a Masters Degree. She worked for a time at Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory on Cape Cod, as well as the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, where she retired as a Biologist and Chief Editor in 1952. She wrote important works on the use of chemicals for agriculture that were maligned by chemical companies. Her influence in environmental topics served as a catalyst for the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. She died in 1964. (G.Young--Environmental Encyclopedia 1998)
