Staff & Faculty Development
Welcome to our new Professional Development portal for USM libraries. We will be building this site through interaction with you, the USM community, assessing your needs and responding with instruction, online tutorials, brown bag events, and any other means you find to be effective.
The tabs located at the top of this site will help you navigate through a wealth of useful tools and resources, some of which may be new to you. Many of the resources we will be sharing with you are subscription databases that you can access online from any USM campus you can use them without any login and from an off-campus location simply enter your name and red bar code number from your USM ID card.
Every USM librarian serves as a liaison to several departments. The list of contacts at the left will allow you to directly contact your liaison to discuss your research needs and thoughts on ways in which we can better serve you. We welcome your input and suggestions.

CAS is hosting a SciFinder e-Seminar on September 9, 2009
It's live, it's interactive, and it's focused on SciFinder for Biomedical Scientists
SciFinder covers a broad area of sciences and provides high quality information on topics such as drug-target interactions, biomarkers, enzymes, as well as many other topics of interest for the biomedical scientist. If you are a biomedical researcher, biologist, biochemist, medicinal chemist, or enzymologist, you'll want to learn about the many ways SciFinder can accelerate your R&D effort and speed up your research process.
In this e-Seminar, we will:
-
Locate the literature most valuable to your research by utilizing Explore by Research Topic
-
Find a biological compound of interest to you with Explore by Substance
-
Utilize SciFinder's powerful Refine, Analyze, and Categorize tools to focus your results
-
Obtain source information for the research documents of interest with Get Cited and Get Citing
-
Learn how to get the most recent updates on your topics of interest with Keep Me Posted
Learn from your desktop or gather your colleagues and share the e-Seminar demonstration in an auditorium or meeting room. You can submit questions at any time during the e-Seminar.
These open sessions provide users with hands-on experience navigating the web interface of SciFinder. A CAS Applications Specialist will be available to answer user questions.
